AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Water Utility crews were in North Austin where a 12 inch water main broke early Monday morning. It happened on York Boulevard between the MoPac frontage road and Stonelake Boulevard.
Austin Water Utility spokesperson Jill Mayfield says the break happened between midnight and 1 a.m. Repair work is expected to start on the part of the road where the asphalt gave way.
The water main break was repaired by 3 p.m. The road however remained closed through Monday while the city looks at it to determine what needs to be done to fix it. People in the area should be aware that the road will be closed Tuesday for repairs.
Crews closed off valves immediately to stop leaking.
Mayfield says one office building in the area lost water service because of the break, but they were not aware of any other businesses or residents losing service.
The city has construction crews taking a look at the road damage.
"Water is very powerful," Mayfield said, "It moves rocks and gravel and what not, so we're going to clean that up, fix the street up, as soon as we get it repaired."
