One dead in RM 2222 accident, 3 injured

Motorcycle caught fire, STARFlight called

AUSTIN (KXAN) - One person is dead after an accident involving a car and two motorcycles.

Police responded to the accident shortly before 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

STAR Flight was called and APD said four patients were transported to UMC Brackenridge. One patient died just hours later.. Three remaining patients are in critical condition.

The motorcycles were heading west, the car was heading east. Initial reports indicate someone crossed the center lane, though it is not clear who was at fault.

Police also said one motorcycle involved in the accident caught fire but was extinguished. There was one driver in the car and one motorcycle had two riders, the other had one.

Austin Police shut down RM 2222 in both directions between Capitol of Texas Highway 360 and RM 620 while investigators worked the accident.

Police have not released the names of anyone involved in the accident or whether the deceased individual was riding a motorcycle or driving in the car.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-5560. This is Austin’s 20th fatal traffic crash and the 21st traffic fatality of 2013. At this time in 2012, there were 15 traffic fatalities.
