Will Saturday be a washout?

AUSTIN (KXAN) - September has already been a wetter-than-average month, but the rain totals are forecast to go even higher beginning Friday.

A combination of moisture sources, including an abundance of tropical air flowing from the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico, will combine with the remnants of Hurricane Miriam to produce widespread rain across Texas Friday and Saturday.

In addition, a weak front will drop into Central Texas, enhancing the chance for heavy rain. Increasing light rain is expected during the day Friday, but more widespread rain, heavy at times, is expected to expand across our area Friday night, then continue on Saturday.

Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches may be common, with some isolated 4 to 8 inch amounts possible.

The rain should taper off by Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, followed by some very pleasant weather during the day Sunday.

Before the rain arrives, another warm and humid afternoon is expected Friday, but with the rain on Saturday, temperatures may not even climb to 80 degrees.

Highs on Sunday are only expected to reach the low to middle 80s. Dry, pleasant weather is forecast for the first few days of October.
