Police: Stolen cards used to buy Rolex

AUSTIN (KXAN) - According to the arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday, 27-year-old Sebastian Meyer tried to use counterfeit credit cards in several Ben Bridge jewelry stores and a Louis Vuitton store in the Austin area.  Meyer was unsuccessful when he first tried to buy a Rolex watch but was luckier the second time at another jewelry store. The watch had a value of $13,400.

Police say he then used the same credit card with the name "Harvey Smith" and bought four items totaling $5,800 at a Louis Vuitton store.

According to the affidavits, Meyer was using a fake name and had a United Kingdom driver's license that matched several of the counterfeit credit cards. The credit cards were connected to real accounts in London.

He attempted to buy a second Rolex but was unsuccessful when the credit card wouldn't swipe, according to police. He had asked the sales associate to manually put in the numbers but she refused.

A manager was then alerted and the cards were taken in the back for further review. After contacting the UK banks he was then told that the accounts were real, but belonged to people with other names and that their bank logo would have been on the credit card had it been real.

The manger called the Austin Police Department and Meyer was arrested and charged with credit card abuse.
