AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police are investigating the suspicious death of a 13-year-old girl in Southeast Austin on New Year's Day.
Investigators say she and a friend were dropped off outside a home in the 2400 block of Lakehurst Drive just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
A neighbor noticed she was suffering and called 911. The first officer who arrived on the scene performed CPR and said there were no obvious signs of trauma on her body. She was taken to Dell Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead around noon.
Oscar Luna and his son Lorenzo was a good friend of the victim. Luna was spending New Year's Eve at Lorenzo's house. After midnight, Luna said his son told him female friend had gone to an end of-year party with another girl. He wasn't sure where, but that they would be returning to spend the night at Lorenzo's home.
The girls arrivedt 11 a.m, dropped off by the driver of a black car. According to Luna, the second girl was badly hurt.
Neighbors called 911. Police say EMS crews rushed the teen to Dell Children' Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Neighbor Patricia Leverett says she wants justice. "I mean, a little girl lost her life," she said. "It's not fair."
