PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - The Pflugerville Independent School District's superintendent will be leaving Central Texas for the seventh-largest school district in the state of Texas.

On Wednesday night, Charles Dupre was named the lone finalist for Fort Bend ISD superintendent. Dupre began his career in education at Fort Bend ISD in 1995 and was the district for 11 years before coming to Pflugerville.

At FBISD, Dupre will oversee a district with 70,000 students and 74 campuses. Whereas at PISD, he oversees nearly 22,000 students and 27 schools.

“I will always consider myself part of the Pflugerville ISD family,” Dupre said. “Pflugerville ISD is and will remain an outstanding school district. I have loved my time in this community and have developed strong relationships that will last a lifetime. Before moving to Pflugerville in 2006, my family and I lived in the Houston area for over 21 years, and at the end of the day, the opportunity to return home was too strong a pull to turn away from.”

Dupre has been with PISD since February 2006.

According to the district, during Dupre's seven years, Pflugerville saw rising graduation rates at the district's three high schools.

Dupre was also named Region XIII Superintendent of the Year in 2012.

The PISD Board will determine a course of action for selecting a new superintendent.
