Parents-to-be stock of baby gear stolen

Stroller, carrier, baby clothes and diapers stolen

AUSTIN (KXAN) - South Austin parents-to-be were stunned after waking up Thursday only to discover that their carefully assembled stock of baby gear was missing.

Tammi and Jeremiah Ingram are like many expecting parents. Many months and many dollars have gone toward getting ready for their baby.

Early Thursday, Jeremiah was leaving for work. The garage door of their Ridgeview Apartments unit was open.

"You could just tell there was a lot of stuff missing," said Jeremiah Ingram.

He woke Tammi to tell her the news.

"I went into the garage and I was half asleep,” said Tammi Milicia Ingram. “I was like some of my clothes are missing. Oh, my gosh! All of our baby stuff is missing."

The stroller, carrier, baby clothes and even the diapers were gone.

"I was just shocked and after that I just started crying,” said Milicia Ingram. “It was just so personal"

It wasn't just the baby gear either. Tammi was preparing for her baby shower with decorations and thank you gifts for her guests. But certain things were left behind, like Jeremiah’s DVDs and records.

“We live in a one bedroom so we don’t have a lot of space to store,” said Ingram. “I can’t really think of anything we could have done different or that we could recommend to anybody. We always lock the door and the garage door.”

The garage door wasn't kicked in. Police told the Ingrams the lock was likely picked. They dusted for finger prints.

"I don't feel unsafe,” said Milicia Ingram. “I just feel sad that somebody had taken this from our unborn baby."

Their baby girl, already named Tatum Bee, is due May 1.

"We're just going to start over,” said Ingram. “Just rethink all of it."

Since August, Austin Police say there have been four vehicle burglaries, no residence burglaries and one burglary of a non-residence at the Ridgeview Apartments.

The apartment management told the Ingrams there were no other burglary reports recently. It is a gated complex. Management installed a deadbolt on the garage Thursday afternoon.
