AUSTIN (KXAN) - Hundreds of papers littered Dessau Road for blocks in North Austin on Monday morning after a waste truck's netting came loose.
It happened around 7 a.m. when a private waste-hauling company called Progressive Waste Solutions made its rounds just north of Rundberg Lane in the 9700 block of Dessau Road.
The hook to one of the nets on the back of the truck came loose, giving way to the waste inside -- mostly paper -- for several blocks.
Austin police said the driver did not stop to pick up anything, but company crews arrived an hour later to clean up the mess.
Police did block off traffic, shutting down one lane heading north on Dessau Road.
The normally busy road was much quieter Monday morning due to the President's Day holiday, allowing for a much smoother cleanup. A Girl Scouts troop also pitched in to help pick up the trash.
Meanwhile, no charges have been filed for littering.
