AUSTIN (KXAN) - Funerals will be held in Austin and San Angelo for Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron, who was shot and killed last week while responding to a call at the Walmart near Parmer Lane and Interstate 35.

A visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Tuesday at Cook Waldon, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., for the three-year veteran of the Austin force. A funeral service will held at 11 a.m. at Shoreline Church, 15201 Burnet Road.

A police honor guard will assemble outside of the church after the service.

Police are planning a three-hour procession that will effectively lap the city and will likely affect afternoon traffic flow.

The motorcade will leave the church at 1 p.m. and head north on Burnet Road to State Highway 45 frontage roads. Vehicles will head east to the southbound Interstate 35 frontage roads to the flyover at Ben White Boulevard.

The route then will proceed west to U.S. Highway 290, and then take Hwy. 290 west to State Highway 71 to the intersection of Ranch Road 620.

"Please expect delays along these roadways, as there will be temporary closures along the entire length of the route," police said in a news release.

The police department’s highway enforcement command will continue onto San Angelo. The route will be State Highway 71 west to U.S. 87 north

The procession will travel through Llano, Brady, Eden and will end in San Angelo, where Padron served 14 years on that city's police department. His parents and other members of his family live in the city.

Services will continue on Thursday and Friday in San Angelo.

Padron, 40, was dispatched to the Walmart after 2 a.m. Friday in response to a report of a shopper who appeared to be intoxicated.

Sometime after Padron approached the shopper identified as 24-year-old Brandon Daniel, a scuffle developed between the two and the officer was mortally wounded in the neck. A bullet also stuck the officer's protective vest. A third round was fire but did not strike anyone.

Padron was not able to draw his service weapon.

Daniel, a software engineer at Hewlett Packard, is charged with capital murder and remains in Travis County Jail without a bail amount set. HP officials issued a statement on Monday saying the company would cooperate with the police investigation.
