AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police investigated a deadly shooting that happened early Friday morning -- and by late Friday, charged the homeowner with murder.
Fred Yazdi, also known as Farzad Fakhriyazdi, 47, was booked into the Williamson County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Yazdi remains in jail as of Saturday.
The shooting happened outside a home in Northwest Austin, in the Granite Shoals section of the Avery Ranch subdivision at the intersection of Avery Ranch Boulevard and Staked Plains Drive.
Police said it started when Enrique Recio, 23, crashed his car into a retaining wall along Avery Ranch Boulevard at 2:57 a.m. He ran to Staked Plains Drive, but then returned to his vehicle but ended up going back to the same street.
According to police, Recio - for an unknown reason - entered onto Yzadi's property at 11300 block of Staked Plains Drive and was confronted by Yazdi with a firearm.
According to the property owner, he shot Recio as he was attempting to flee. At this time, investigators do not know the reason why the property owner shot the fleeing victim.
Recio's body was found on the other side of a short, metal fence across the driveway and off Yazdi's property.
Friday morning police said they were not sure what the confrontation between the two men entailed.
Authorities said someone from inside the home called 911 at 3:08 a.m. to report the shooting.
Leander Independent School District was notified that students at Rutledge Elementary School had to take an alternative route to get to school because a section of Staked Plains Drive was closed.
Some neighbors told KXAN that Yazdi has had a history of tension with some of the neighborhood, but his criminal history was spotless.
