AUSTIN (TEXAS) - A Travis County grand jury has decided to not take action against two officers involved in a shooting last December.
Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg said the officers were no-billed for the shooting of suspect Todd Michael Zurovetz that took place after a high-speed chase in southwest Travis County.
The officers began the chase about 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 5, 2011, after Zurovetz was spotted driving a truck that had been reported stolen. The truck crashed into a fence near a home and Zurovetz ran off, and then broke into a nearby residence, police said at the time.
After that, police said, Zurovetz attempted to steal that homeowner’s vehicle.
When Zurovetz failed to stop, Austin Police Officer Chris Allen shot and wounded him. Another shot was fired down the road by Travis County Sheriff's Deputy Tracy Stirman and the suspect crashed the vehicle. Zurovetz then entered another home.
After a standoff with a SWAT team, Zurovetz finally surrendered.
But the chase didn't stop there.
According to officials, Zurovetz escaped arrest but was soon apprehended. He is charged with escape from custody and burglary of a vehicle. He was also held on a parole violation with and evading arrest. No bail amount was set on the parole violation charge.
