AUSTIN (KXAN) - Drawings of the new plans for the old Spaghetti Warehouse building were made public Tuesday.

After the restaurant was shuttered - World Class Capital Group bought the building. Crews gutted it to make room for a new, upscale eatery called "Capital Grille."

Austin architect Michael Hsu is designing the redevelopment. The historic structure is a staple in Austin's Warehouse District.

Built in 1902, it was a grocery warehouse - and during prohibition, it was a brothel.

World Class Capital Group has purchased several vacant Downtown Austin properties in recent months.

The list includes Spaghetti Warehouse and Katz's Deli

Also in the group are LaZona Rosa and Hard Rock Cafe, plus an empty retail space and a site for high-rise housing, both on Trinity Street.

The original name of the building is "Nelson Davis Warehouse". It was constructed, by Nelson Davis in 1904. His family owned the building until the late 1950s, at which point was saved from becoming a parking lot by the city of Austin and designated an Austin Historic Landmark.

The project scope includes:

  • Historic renovation of the alley, 4th Street and Colorado Street facades including historic wood windows, wood louvers, re-pointed masonry, original awning color, removal of all paint
  • Rooftop Addition - Designed in-conjunction with Historic Commission staff, to be setback 15 feet from the Fourth Street Facade
  • Historic Commission approved the project - March 26, 2012
  • Great Street Sidewalk Extension - Along Fourth Street with street tress, benches, bicycle racks
  • New Raised Concrete Docks - For outdoor seating
  • ADA / Handicap Accessibility - from sidewalk to all floors in building
  • New structural steel frame and restoration of the old brick walls
  • Three restaurants: The Capital Grille (main floor), PrimeBAR (new rooftop) and to be determined (lower floor)
  • Six Lounge Rooftop - exterior Improvements
  • Construction cost: $4 million
  • General contractor: Structura, Inc.
