AUSTIN (KXAN) - The theme for Monday's Trail of Lights is "Hero’s Night" to  celebrate members of the military.

The event will feature special opening ceremonies to honor military, veterans and service personnel.  The Pipe and Drum Corps will also be performing at 9:00 pm on the Trail of Lights Entertainment Stage.

Here is the agenda:

·           7-7:30 pm – Sole Songs Dance Academy

·           7:30-8 pm – Lonestar Dance Center for Performing Arts

·           8-8:30 pm – Champions Academy – Kim’s Gym

·           8:30-9 pm – Clint Small Middle School

·           9:00 pm—Military Pipe and Drum Corp

The Trail returned tot Zilker Park on Sunday after a two-year hiatus.

People started lining up for the opening ceremonies early in the evening in anticipation of the 6:00 kick off.

"When they started it up I was going to make sure I was the first in the gate to see it this year," said Karen Miller, who was one of the first in line.

The tunnel of glowing lights--red and blue and green--lit the way, leading thousands of people into the Trail of Lights.

The trail wraps around Zilker Park. Nearly a million lights illuminate the way while holiday music and entertainment fills.

Until Dec. 23, gates to the Trail of Lights open at 6:30 each night and close at 10 p.m. Admission is free.
