AUSTIN (KXAN) -

The high-profile criminal case against an Austin woman wrapped up last month, but her legal troubles aren't over.

Now, Laurie Griffin, the mother of Courtney Griffin, is seeking up to a million dollars in damages against Gabrielle Nastande and others responsible for the death of her daughter.

"Courtney loved life, she loved life I think more than anybody I know," Griffin said as she spoke about her daughter. "She was non-judgmental, friendly, give you the last dollar she had."

It's easy for Griffin to recall her daughter's life. Still, she feels Courtney's life was taken too soon and believes no justice was served in last month's verdict.

"Making someone take responsibility for her death and I believe that it's the right people," Griffin. "It's Gabrielle Jane Nastande, and it's Clive Bar that over-served her alcohol."

Griffin says the laws need to be tightened when it comes to drunk driving and alcohol consumption in Austin.

"A drunk person should not be on the road and we're seeing that right now, an epidemic of hit-and-run fatalities," she said. "Unfortunately, my daughter was one of them."

She said Courtney had a lot of love in here heart, she loved children and animals, and was a great friend to everyone that knew her.

"I want Courtney's legacy to live on and go on forever," Griffin said. "I believe that she earned it, and as her mother, I want to see that done."
