AUSTIN (KXAN) - Some friends of Old Man Winter will be in Austin this week for the largest meteorology conference in the world.
The 93rd Annual Meeting of the American Meteorological Society will host over 3,000 meteorologists and their colleagues beginning this weekend.
Organizers say the sessions will focus around the theme “Taking Predictions to the Next Level.” The sessions will focus on Expanding beyond today’s weather, water issues and climate and forecasting predictions.
“The advancements over the past 60 years in the Meteorological and related Earth System sciences, global observing systems and computer capabilities, combined with the ability to provide decision support services through the public and private sectors, have been a crowning achievement for the entire enterprise related to weather, climate and ocean predictions,” organizers said.
AMS hopes this years theme will serve as a catalyst for focusing the attention of the research, and operational communities on the exciting possibilities related to advancing predictive capabilities across many disciplines and applications
