AUSTIN (KXAN) - The next time you order a Big Mac in Austin, you could be helping the environment.
The Austin Area McDonald's restaurants on Friday announced a new citywide recycling program.
The initiative is supported by Mayor Lee Leffingwell's request for more businesses to adopt green policies. The mayor showed his appreciation.
"This is the first city in America I understand where McDonald's has begun this process, and we hope it will be a model for other cities around the area," Leffingwell said.
The first phase of the program will take place behind the counter with employees recycling paper, plastic and metals in separate bins.
