AUSTIN (KXAN) - McCallum High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday and nearby Ridge Top Elementary was placed under "shelter in place" amid reports that someone may have fired a shot.
One student was placed in custody.
Police said McCallum went on lockdown at 1:13 p.m. and the lockdown was lifted at 1:53 p.m. Ridge Top Elementary went into 'shelter in place' at 1:35 p.m. and that was lifted at 1:53 p.m.
School officials sent a letter home to parents explaining the situation. They said a student told a staff member at the high school that he had shot someone earlier in the day. He then ran off.
Police were called in the and students was taken into custody, but officials did not say where the student was at the time.
Police said there was no indication of any shooting in the vicinity of McCallum ..
