Some challenges bigger than others along course

AUSTIN (KXAN) - It’s hard enough to imagine running a half or full marathon mile for most people.

Now imagine running the marathon with one leg. Chris Arthey and his wife both lost their left legs in a car crash with a drunken driver four years ago. Today, he's attempting his first half marathon, post accident.

Arthey said that he finds inspiration from people like fellow Livestrong team member and cancer survivor Amy Dodson and the many wounded war veterans who have gone on to live fulfilling lives.

Arthey ran the Austin Marathon four years ago, just two weeks before his accident. Today he is running the 13.1 mile-long half marathon.

“Once I got fit and running again I thought it would be really good to come back and do Austin again,” said Arthey. “It’s a great race, I love it. I won’t be quite as fast as four years ago but not too much slower.”

For an update on the Austin Marathon, tune in to KXAN News tonight 5.
