Manor student arrested in threat case

MANOR, Texas (KXAN) - A 19-year-old student at Manor High School is in Travis County Jail for allegedly threatening the assistant principal.

According to an arrest affidavit, the assistant principal told Juan Becerra to report to the behavior unit. Becerra reportedly refused and said he was heading home instead.

The assistant principal then told Becerra he was suspended and that he needed to leave the campus.

Authorities said Becerra left without any problems but returned 15 minutes later and began to cause a disturbance in the school cafeteria.

School resource officers and the assistant principal were able to restrain him.

While officers were putting handcuffs on Becerra, authorities said he started yelling at the principal and said, "You lucky I don’t have a gun I’ll come back and kill you."

Manor ISD officials said they don't treat threats lightly.

"In light of recent events nationwide, we're reviewing everything that we're doing to make sure we're on top of everything and ensuring the safety of all of our students," said Russell Wallace, deputy superintendent with Manor ISD.

Becerra was arrested on charges of retaliation, as well as criminal trespass. Bond has been set at $15,000.
