Manor road construction snarls traffic

Expect delays on Highway 290 on Monday

MANOR, Texas (KXAN) - As parents and student’s finish up their back-to-school check lists, families in Manor may need to add “find alternative route” to their list. The construction on the highways is expected to cause major delays for parents, students and school officials in Manor.

The morning commute to school is already a headache for many due to several construction projects, but add the first day of school in the mix and it is a recipe for disaster. That is why Manor Independent School District is taking steps to help the first day of school pass by without a glitch.

Manor ISD is asking parent’s to prepare alternative routes out ahead of time, to aid them in getting their children to school on time. Parents can expect to see build up on Highway 290 as they build the new toll road. Also anticipate back ups on Highway 20 due to the new expansion project.

The schools are also doing their part to get kids to class before the bell rings. Bus drivers are coming in 30 minutes early on Monday morning to make sure they hit all their stops on time. And Manor police are stepping up their patrols tomorrow so that they can respond quickly to any problems. They are also using an alert system to warn commuters of any added traffic through a program called Nixel.

"We have been trying to raise awareness. We have been sending out Nixel alerts and trying to be very active with our city Facebook page,” says Manor’s Sergeant Ryan Phipps.

Anyone can sign up for the Nixel alert system. To find out more information visit the website
