AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin man was recovering from second- and third-degree burns on Wednesday after being set on fire a day earlier, authorities said.
Police and fire officials have launched an investigation and one person was being questioned in the matter.
The call came in around 9 p.m. Tuesday to the Camden apartments on Metric Avenue near Parmer Lane in North-central Austin.
The man, whose identity was not released, was said to be in his 30s. He was taken by helicopter to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio with severe injuries.
"Both fire and arson investigators and the police department are investigating what happened," said Palmer Buck, with the Austin Fire Department. "They have a female who was here at the time of the incident that they are questioning."
According to next-door neighbor Rathan Rajendren, he heard what sounded like an argument next door right before the incident happened.
He said the victim told police his wife was giving him a massage when she poured gasoline all over him and set him on fire. The woman was not placed under arrested as of Wednesday afternoon.
The wife, who is now in police custody, told police her husband doused himself in gasoline before lighting himself on fire.
"When he was talking to police officers he was telling that, the victim claims that his poured the gasoline on him and tried to set him on fire," said Rajendren.
The Austin police homicide division was still investigating what happened, and more details should be released later Wednesday.
