AUSTIN (KXAN) - After leaving the Crown Event Center in Southeast Austin on Sunday morning, a truck carrying five passengers was allegedly attacked by three men at F.M. 793 and U.S. Highway 183.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Rey Delatorre-Vargas, 18, was arrested after he and two other suspects used a truck and a construction level to harm the occupants of another vehicle.
The document states the disturbance started after a white pickup truck was attempting to turn left out of the center when the occupants of a red pickup pulled alongside his truck and began throwing beer bottles at the vehicle. The white truck turned out of the parking lot to escape, but the red truck gave chase, the affidavit said.
The report also states the passengers in the white truck indicated to police that as many as three additional cars gave chase, while the driver of the red truck attempted to force them off the road by swerving into their lane. As the white truck came to a stop on 183 at a red light, the red truck struck the vehicle from behind, causing significant damage and disabling the red truck.
After the collision, the two in the red truck, and at least one other person exited their vehicles and approached the white truck and began striking the vehicle, according to the report. The suspects used a construction level to break out several windows, the document states.
The level also struck the driver of the white truck, causing him to obtain a wound across his chest and left elbow. Two other occupants received minor injuries from the broken glass, according to the affidavit.
Before police arrived, according to the report, the alleged suspects left the scene in a black Dodge Charger. The car was later located near the intersection of F.M. 812 and F.M. 973 with three male passengers inside.
Rey has been booked on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
