AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin man has been arrested on aggravated assault charges after confronting his roommate with a loaded rifle in his hand.
Officials said that the victim knocked down some of her belongings, making extra noise when she got home to her apartment that she shared with 57-year-old David Bridges.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday, Bridges became enraged by the noise and started yelling at the victim from his room.
The victim was unresponsive which lead Bridges to come to her bedroom door with a rifle in his hands, said authorities.
According to APD, the victim said that Bridges came into her room, rifle in hand yelling “Wanna start something, want to make noise?” “Your name is not on the lease. You’re evicted; you need to get out of here.”
The victim told authorities that Bridges was pointing the rifle at the floor in her direction while he was yelling at her.
After being threatened by Bridges, the victim left the house in fear of her safety and flagged down an APD officer.
Bridges told police that the victim started the fight with him and told him that she was going to move out.
His reasoning for having the rifle is that he felt threatened by the victim because his previous roommate robbed him, said officials.
APD located a loaded .22-caliber rifle and an unloaded single-shot 12-gauge shotgun in Bridges
bedroom.
Bridges was arrested and charged with aggravated assault – family violence for threatening his roommate while displaying a deadly weapon.
