AUSTIN (KXAN) - The man wanted in the Jan. 21 shooting death of a romantic rival was arrested in South Texas on Thursday evening apparently as he was re-entering the United States from Mexico, authorities said.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Roy Rogers Soliz, 58, was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at 5 p.m. Thursday. He was apprehended in the Rio Grande River, the sheriff's office said.
Federal authorities verified Soliz's identity and found the warrant issued for his arrest. He remained in the Cameron County Jail in Brownsville while arrangements were made to return him to Travis County.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit issued for Soliz, 58, he is accused of entering the Auto and Finance at 1524 West Howard Lane just off Interstate 35 just before 9 a.m. on Jan. 21 and shooting 38-year-old Christopher Carson.
Carson died at a Round Rock hospital from his wounds.
Authorities said Carson was dropping off his girlfriend, who is married to Soliz, off at work when Roy Soliz arrived at the business.
Ms. Soliz told detectives that before Roy Soliz started shooting, he said: "I told you I was going to do this." Then he proceeded to shoot Carson numerous times with a handgun.
