AUSTIN (KXAN) - SXSW is five weeks away, but event organizers have two weeks to get their wish list to the City regarding road closures and any security concerns.
According to Sgt. Jeff Crawford with the Austin Police Department, event organizers are sending in applications to see if they can extend the number of days where street closures will be needed -- from four days to possibly nine days. Organizers are also trying to get additional road closures around venues.
Event organizers need to have their final requests in by Feb. 14. because Council will still need time to approve or reject the applications.
In regards to staffing, Sgt. Crawford said the number of officers dedicated to SXSW will be on par with last year, which is around 50 officers per day.
