AUSTIN (KXAN) - At least a dozen instances of school lockdowns have been imposed in the Austin area so far this school year. Most turned ended without students being placed in danger.
12/13/12—AISD
Around 10:30 a.m. a man robbed the Kentucky Fried Chicken in the 7200 block of Ed Bluestein Blvd.
He was wearing a mask, a black hooded sweatshirt and shorts. He left the scene on foot but its believed he got in a car according to an Austin police spokesperson. Nearby Winn Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown while police searched the area.
11/5/12—LEANDER
SWAT situation places Cedar Park Middle School, Cedar Park High School, Naumann Elementary and Faubion Elementary were on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to a police situation. Suspect shot at police and released hostage before killing himself.
10/26/12--LEANDER
Lockdown at Naumann Elementary school started at 9:45 a.m. as a precautionary measure. Witness said they saw someone they did not recognize on school property discard something on the ground. The staff was unable to find anything in the area.
9/17/12—AISD
Shots fired near LBJ High school. Call came in around 11:50 a.m. AISD reported they heard three shots in the area of Lazy Creek Dr. They believe two people were shooting shots into the ground. They have one house surrounded by police. They did evacuate one home because there were two kids in the home. They think the possible suspect is a male in his 20s. The home at 7200 block Chisos Pass was surrounded.
9/14/12—DEL VALLE
The Travis County Sheriff's Office arrested three people at Del Valle High School on Friday after multiple fights broke out on campus. According to sheriff's deputies, during the lunch period several students began engaging in multiple fights. The police officer assigned to the school called for backup. One deputy suffered minor injuries after arriving at the school. Deputies charged two people with assault of a peace officer and one person with resisting arrest. Two of the suspects were taken to Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center and one was taken to the Travis County Jail. After the fights the school was put on lock down for the rest of the day.
8/27/12—AISD
McCallum HS was briefly placed on lockdown this morning. It has been lifted. APD called to the scene of a bank robbery at the Prosperity Bank in that area at 1610 West North Loop.
4/19/12—LEANDER
Knowles Elementary on lockdown. Suspicious package found on playground late Thursday morning.Fire Department are examining the package. No injuries, all kids were safe.
4/2/12—AISD
Police near Maplewood Elementary School. APD searching for a burglary suspect.Maplewood Elementary School was placed on lockdown briefly and then upgraded to in Shelter in place. School is currently in shelter in place. Nobody allowed in or out of building but classes remain normal.
3/19—MANOR ISD
At approximately 9 a.m., the Travis County Sheriff's Office received a "false alarm" phone call reporting a person with a firearm near the Manor High School campus. Campus administrators immediately implemented emergency, "lock down" protocols to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Parents were notified of the situation via the district's emergency electronic communication system. The lockdown was lifted at 11:30 am, and the student who made the call is currently in the custody of law enforcement.
3/19—PFLUGERVILLE
Pflugerville High School placed on "reverse evacuation" as a precautionary measure. Students are not leaving classrooms and no visitors allowed. The district received suspicious emails this morning. Pflugerville ISD PD is investigating the emails.
2/22—AISD
A McCallum student apparently told a teacher at the school that he had shot someone earlier in the day - once he told the teacher, he took off from the school. Since officials didn't know whether or not he shot smeone on campus or elsewhere, they decided to lock down the school just in case. A letter was sent home to parents to let them know what happened. McCallum went on lockdown at 1:13 p.m. and the lockdown was lifted at 1:53 p.m. Ridge Top Elementary went into 'shelter in place' at 1:35 p.m. and that was lifted at 1:53 p.m.
1/9/12—EANES
Cedar Creek Elementary, Eanes Elementary and Hill Country Middle School went on lockdown briefly today before 8am, following reports of a nearby bank robbery. District officials spoke with law enforcement and determined the report to be false. Students are safe and schools have resumed normal operations.
