AUSTIN (KXAN) - After being placed briefly in a lockdown, McCallum High School officials have lifted it Monday morning.

A bank robbery in that area at the Prosperity Bank at 1610 West North Loop triggered the lockdown while Austin police were on scene looking for the suspect.

APD Sgt. David Daniels said the call came in at 9:56 a.m., after a man displayed a weapon when he entered the bank and demanded money.

The man ran away heading north with an undisclosed amount of cash, and police are still patrolling neighborhoods looking for him. Authorities have enlisted the help of K-9 units and air support.

Suspect description

  • black man about 30 years old
  • 5 feet 5 inches tall with a medium build
  • wearing blue bandana on his head
  • wore sunglasses, beige shirt, light-colored basketball shorts and white tennis shoes

Meanwhile, investigators continue to interview witnesses and employees, and police are looking to release surveillance photos or video of the bank robber.

There were no injuries.

This comes on a day when much of Central Texas went back to school for the 2012-2013 school year. You can check out photos of students strapping up to head into schools across the area.
