AUSTIN (KXAN) - Heavy lightning caused two large outages, knocking out power to more than 4,200 customers in North Austin as storms moved into the area.

A large band of heavy rain and lightning tripped the circuits for Austin Energy just after 8 p.m. Tuesday in the area around Braker Lane between Lamar Boulevard and Burnet Road.

Circuits are designed to automatically reset after a lightning strike but sometimes have to be manually reset, according to spokesman Ed Clark.

Austin Energy had power restored to all customers in the two large outages by 9 p.m.  Crews were also assessing several small outages affecting a few customers.

Austin Energy advises all customers experiencing a prolonged outage to call 512-322-9100.
