AUSTIN (KXAN) - Two days after stepping down from the top spot at Livestrong, Lance Armstrong will help kick off a series of weekends events celebrating the birthday of the cancer charity he founded 15 years ago.

The cycling champ's attempt at protecting Livestrong from fallout over doping allegations he denies, will remain on Livestrong's board of directors.

Armstrong is scheduled to speak to a crowd of about 1,700 Livestrong supporters, cancer survivors and friends Friday night during a fundraiser at the Austin Convention Center.

He is expected to mention the decision to step down as chairman, but will likely avoid avoid any comments related to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency report and evidence that suggest the Tour de France winner used performance enhancing drugs. Livestrong says they will upload the speech on YouTube.

Several stars and entertainers on the guest list include Ben Stiller, Sean Penn, Robin Williams, Maria Shriver and singer Norah Jones.

Despite Nike dropping Armstrong, the athletic apparel giant is sponsoring a special Livestrong presentation at the University of Texas football game Saturday. During the second quarter, the entire student section will sport Livestrong t-shirts designed for the game.

On Sunday, almost 4,000 riders are expected to participate in the Livestrong Challenge Ride for the Roses in downtown Austin.
