KXAN's Cargile honored for education coverage

AUSTIN (KXAN) - KXAN education reporter and weekend anchor Erin Cargile has been awarded the Texas State Teachers Association’s School Bell Award for Outstanding Single Program.

As part of the KXAN Investigative team , Cargile focuses on children and education issues affecting the lives of Central Texans, from school closures to tracking school attendance with GPS devices,

A native Texan who joined KXAN 2008, Cargile was recognized for her significant education coverage and her ability to give viewers fresh information to help them understand public education. Her investigative report on the $90 million price tag on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR test, was a prime example of strong education coverage.

“This award reflects Erin’s dedication to in-depth education reporting,” said KXAN News Director Chad Cross. “Erin and our KXAN team know our viewers count on us for crucial information that affects their children.”

 The School Bell Awards recognize outstanding statewide media coverage of education issues and events.

The Texas State Teachers Association takes great pride in sponsoring the annual School Bell Awards to recognize the contributions and support for public education in Texas. This is the second consecutive year KXAN has received this honor with Josh Hinkle being last year’s recipient for Outstanding Single Program interpreting education issues.
