"Most folks don't know that the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area has the fastest growing 55 to 64 year-old population," said Atwood, "And the second fastest growing 65 and over population. That is huge implications for our community and our region."
Atwood said Central Texas needs to be ready for the demand in senior services.
"We need to work and build a community and an infrastructure in our community that supports not only retired persons but persons as they're aging," said Atwood.
Caregiver Patricia Carangi said hospitals and other specialty health centers opening in the area is good news for people seeking jobs.
"There's a lot of job openings and companies, home care companies," said Carangi. "Even hospitals are having a hard time staffing".
