KXAN captures 20 Texas Associated Press Broadcaster awards

Awards include nine first place honors

AUSTIN (KXAN) - KXAN dominated the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards this year with a total of 20 awards, including 9 first place honors. Top honors include:

•           Best Morning Newscast

•           Best Spot Coverage – UT Campus Evacuation

•           Best Investigative Report – Pop Warner Finances

•           Best Reporter – Josh Hinkle

•           Best General Assignment – Pinch Hitting for Perry

•           Best Continuing Coverage – Christmas Bureau Missing Money

•           Best Website – KXAN.com

•           Best Deadline Editing: General News – Coach Inspires Community

•           Best Online/Special Content – F1 Comes to Austin

Every year the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters honors excellence and achievement in journalism with awards in various categories for each of the four TV divisions in Texas, with KXAN at the top of division two in Austin and San Antonio.

“We are proud of our team and the individuals who are being recognized,” said KXAN News Director Chad Cross. “It’s exciting to win in the categories that reflect KXAN’s in-depth, investigative focus.”

KXAN swept the Continuing Coverage category with second place for an investigation of the Austin Police Department’s unpaid bills, and an Honorable Mention for Formula One coverage.

Other second place honors include Spot Coverage, Feature, Photojournalism - Station, Documentary/TV Magazine or Special, News Series, and Deadline Editing.

Honorable mentions include an investigative report on Austin Energy’s spending, Sportscast, and Feature Editing.
