Top 20 worst spots for speeding tickets

APD releases list of city speed zones

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police write thousands of tickets every year, but some places throughout the city get many more people in trouble than others.

KXAN News submitted public information requests to find out where officers are giving out the most tickets in the city. APD sent a list of the 20 places where officers have stopped the most drivers for speeding.

No. 1 on the list: the 4600 block of North Interstate 35. That's just north of the upper- and lower deck split, near Dell Children's Medical Center.

Records show that Austin police gave out 1,354 tickets last year at that spot.

The 1700 block of Enfield Road is the second highest location for speeding tickets. The area is known for curvy downhill lanes between MoPac and Lamar Boulevard.

In the past year, officers have handed out 1,164 tickets in that area.

Austin police officers focus patrols on intersections and roadways which have the most accidents, particularly deadly crashes.

Every two weeks, highway enforcement officers review traffic safety data to determine where officers will focus patrols.

"As a result, we saw a 10 percent reduction in collisions last year," said APD Commander Jason Dusterhoft, who said the reduction was city-wide.

Dusterhoft said the department hopes crashes will continue to go down with the strategic placement of resources based on traffic safety data..
