AUSTIN (KXAN) - A federal judge on Monday agreed to release Amado Pardo, the South Austin restaurant owner jailed on federal drug charges.
U.S. Judge Mark Lane agreed to release Pardo because he has terminal cancer and doctors are recommending hospice care.
Pardo’s attorney Ben Florey argued in court documents that Pardo has not been mentally responsive since December. He has been in jail since July when federal authorities raided his popular restaurant..
The judge agreed to release Pardo but he must stay at home or a court approved hospital or care facility and must submit to location monitoring by court officers.
On Thursday, Pardo’s wife Amanda Pardo pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. She has not yet been sentenced.
The trial for Pardo is set to begin on Feb. 11.
