AUSTIN (KXAN) - The city's decision to bar some of the Occupy Austin people from City Hall violated their First Amendment rights, a federal judge said in an ruling handed down Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Lee Yaekel sided with the protestors who sued after being issued criminal trespass notices 11 months ago. The ruling requires the city to pay the court costs of Occupiers Rodolfo Sanchez and Kristopher Seeman, who filed the suit.

The protestors, along with members of Austin's homeless population, had camped out near the downtown center of municipal government for several weeks.

The Occupy movement started as a protest to financial practices on Wall Street.
