AUSTIN (KXAN) - Jack Frost made his way through Austin Sunday morning, blanketing lawns across Central Texas and over the next few days our area will see some much needed rain.

This week Austin could see as many as two to six inches of rain from a low pressure system in California making its way to the Lonestar State.

Central Texas could see the system in the area as early as Monday evening , though some models predict it won’t arrive until Tuesday.

The National Weather service for Austin-San Antonio says, ““A strong upper level system is expected to move across South Central Texas between Tuesday and Wednesday in combination with rich tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to produce widespread shower and thunderstorm activity. Some of these storms could become severe…with damaging winds and heavy rainfall.”

The system is expected to bring with it wide-spread rain across the Hill country and into the Austin Metro area. Smaller amounts of rain from the system are expected as far away as West Texas.

“Storm rainfall amounts could range from one half to an inch west of highway 83 and one to two inches east of highway 83 and highway 281. Along and east of highway 281…rainfall amounts will vary from two to four inches of rainfall accumulations with possible pockets of six inches,” the weather service said.
