AUSTIN (KXAN) - Travis County Sheriff's Office released information Thursday about an inmate's death.
Spokesman Roger Wade said Roel Robert Valanzuela, 55, was jailed on Tuesday for a charge of criminal trespass.
At 4:12 p.m. on Wednesday, a corrections officer found Valenzuela "in distress" in his jail cell. Details of the distress were not released, but officials said his death appears to be due to natural causes.
Jail medical staff, the corrections officer and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services made efforts to help Valenzuela, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation shows there was nothing suspicious or criminal concerning the circumstances, according to Wade.
An autopsy report will be issued when toxicology tests have been completed.
