AUSTIN (KXAN) - Only feet away from the skyscrapers of downtown Austin, you can hear the sounds of Mother Nature.
Lady Bird Lake is an iconic place that attracts thousands of Austinites and visitors.
Lady Bird Lake breathes life into our city, at anytime you can find Austinites running, walking or just enjoying the views.
That's why hundreds of volunteers took time to help clean Miss Lady Bird up Saturday morning.
"Little Helping Hands" a family volunteer organization teamed up with the "Keep Austin Beautiful".
Families and volunteers took their time cleaning up trash around the lake.
"We get a lot of questions about what we are doing, We get a lot of thanks for coming out and cleaning the area," said Marissa Vogel of Little Helping Hands.
Organizers said picking up trash is contagious.
When someone sees a volunteer, they might want to pick up litter, too.
Vogel said, "It makes a difference when you see 50 volunteers with pick me uppers, with trash cans with kids coming and cleaning up the park, it's going to make a difference."
Liza Sanchez wants to make sure her kids get to enjoy what Austin has to offer.
"This lake and all the areas, I want the areas to be clean for them, " Sanchez said.
Trash had no where to hide, and even paddle boaters swept in to get those hard-to-reach areas.
Volunteers found bowling shoes, footballs, clothing and a whole lot of cans.
Keep Austin Beautiful has set a cleanup of http://www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/underwater/ http://www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/underwater/ for Sept. 23.
