AUSTIN (KXAN) - A space heater was the cause of a fire in East Austin on Sunday morning.
No residents were injured, but two dogs died, in a house fire on East 12th Street. The fire, which was ruled accidental, originated in a bedroom where a space heater was plugged into a power strip.
The house fire, in the 2900 block of East 12th Street near Harvey Street, was quickly contained by the Austin Fire Department. Three residents did make it out of the house, which the fire department credited to a working smoke detector.
The fire was contained just before 10 a.m. Damages are estimated at $25,000.
