Holiday shoppers scout for best deals

ROUND ROCK (KXAN) - The day after Thanksgiving is a day to recover from the big feast, but thousands of shoppers shrugged off the turkey coma and hit the stores in Central Texas.

The National Retail Federation expects about 147 million people to shop online and in stores this Black Friday weekend.

"It's a rush, it's a rush the parking get's crazy, but it's okay, it's worth while you take what you can get,,” said Lonnie Gooden. He started his shopping marathon at midnight and made his way to the Round Rock Premier Outlets Friday morning.

Gooden said he’s usually a Cyber Monday type of guy, but decided to try Black Friday for the first time.

"I'm very satisfied you save more, a lot more,” Gooden said. “You save at least 30 to 40 percent more than your regular prices, so you do save a lot."

He spent some time in the Nike Outlet store buying clothes for family members for Christmas.

It’s the appeal of the deal that has consumers mesmerized by the biggest shopping day off the year.

“Because it’s like a lot of good deals, and I’m low on cash flow I don’t have a lot of money so it’s nice for me,” said Kristen Kemper who was also at the outlet mall.

She said she was surprised it wasn’t as busy around 9:00 a.m. like she thought it was going to be.

"From like rumors I guess people who trample each other and I was like should I wear safety pads?” explained Kemper. “Nothing’s been bad.”

Some people came with a plan of attack to tackle those sales and came at a not so popular time to avoid the crowds.

"She's been here last few years about this time and so she said it's usually like the lull of the day so I'm not into bit crowds I'm not going to wait in line for anything crazy just something to do,” said Jana Pickett.
