Highlights from Jan. 17 City Council agenda

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Here are some of the highlights of Tuesday's Austin City Council agenda:

• The council postponed action on a proposal that would have brought back the water coolers for the people who use the hiking and jogging trails around Lady Bird Lake.
• Authorized a contract extension for paddlewheel boating services on Lady Bird Lake. This extension will allow the vendor, a family-owned business, to continue providing excursions around the lake from its dock east of the Drake Bridge at 101 S. First St.
• Authorized an agreement with Travis County to provide ground emergency medical services to areas outside city limits, but within the county. The agreement includes City dispatch assistance of the Travis County STAR Flight air ambulance program. This action continues a 30-year partnership between Travis County and the City’s Emergency Medical Services Department.
• Authorized a contract to provide downloadable electronic books for all Austin Public Library branches. This contract will offer library cardholders the ability to download e-books from a major publisher’s online library lending system. All downloadable content is available in MP3 format for PC, Mac and mobile devices.
