HID Global chooses Austin for center

Project expected to bring 276 jobs over 10 years

AUSTIN(KXAN) - The identity-security company  HID Global announced Wednesday that it will combine its North American manufacturing and distribution operations in Austin.

This new location will include construction of a 200,000-square-foot operations center on approximately 20 acres, with a total capital investment of $35 million. The project will create 276 jobs over the next 10 years. Last month, the state ponied up $1.9 million to help lure the facility.

The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with executives with the California company since the beginning of this year to get the deal completed.

This new location will include construction of a 200,000 square foot operations center on approximately 20 acres, with a total capital investment of $35 million. The project will create 276 jobs over the next 10 years.

The facility will include a high-tech manufacturing operation that will produce HID Global’s secure identity products for enterprise and government customers.

“We are thrilled that HID Global has chosen to locate their new operations center here in Austin. The Company has a worldwide reputation for innovation, quality and excellence – a perfect fit for our vibrant, growing community,” said Gary Farmer, chairman of Opportunity Austin ; a five-county economic development initiative aimed at fostering job-creating investment in the region.
