Hart Elementary namesake dead at 91

School is in northeast Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Bernice Hart, namesake for an Austin elementary school, died Monday morning. She was 91 years old.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office said that she died of natural causes.

Hart was on the Austin Independent School Board until 1994 for a total of 12 years.

The district named Bernice Hart Elementary School , 8301 Furness, in northeast Austin, in her honor in 1988.
