AUSTIN (KXAN) - Adopted a dog lately? Most people look for something cute and cuddly. Hard Luck Hounds, however, wants you to open your horizon.
There's a lot to be loved in any dog, and that's where Hard Luck Hounds comes in. A total of 16,000 dogs come through local animal centers every year. The cute, fuzzy ones get snatched up immediately. Then there's that 10 percent that has more difficulty finding a home.
According to Hard Luck Hounds, there is always a universe of dogs that just sit in a shelter, month after month, stuck in their kennel. They might be older. They could be rowdier. For whatever reason, those dogs don't get adopted at the same rate as the cute and cuddly puppies.
Hard Luck Hounds tries to find a home for the final 10 percent of dogs. Sometimes, volunteers with the group help address misconceptions about breeds or addresses issues of behavior or health. Then they market the dogs so they can find the perfect family.
Every dog, regardless of age or breed, can find a home, according to the group. For those who are interested in adopting a dog, the group is available 24 hours a day and can provide a vet car or a crate for an animal.
