Gun debate goes to City Hall Tuesday

Leaders will discuss authority in similar cases

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Public Health and Human Services city leaders will discuss gun safety and responsible gun ownership on Tuesday.

Chief art Acevedo will discuss programs offered by Austin Police including gun buy back’s as well as measures APD is taking to curb illegal gun sales.

A representative from the Mayor Lee Leffingwell’s office will also be on tap to discuss the nationwide Mayors against illegal guns campaign.

City leaders will also discuss a possible ban on gun shows from the Travis County Expo Center behind closed doors of the Commissioners Court as well as their authority in similar cases.
