AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Travis County jury has found Nichole Turner, 24, guilty for the killing of a 5-year-old boy two years ago.
On Friday, Turner took the stand and gave her accounts of what happened. The jury got the case around 6:30 p.m. and came back with a verdict less than two hours later.
Turner was charged with injury to a child.
On April 10, 2010, police found the body of Julian Soliz near the entrance of the Wells Branch neighborhood.
Turner was dating Soliz' father at the time. She admitted to beating the boy with a belt. The autopsy found that Julian died of blunt force trauma and he had 60 bruises on his body. His body was found in a grassy patch near the intersection of Wells Port Cove and Wells Port Drive.
On day two of the trial, police and witnesses took the stand. Family and friends of Turner said she's innocent.
Prosecutors say Turner was an abusive caretaker, accusations her family says is untrue.
"She did everything for that little boy, she loved that little boy like it was her own child," said Quitasia Moore, Turner's cousin.
Sentencing phase will begin on Monday.
