AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Greyhound charter bus carrying Special Olympic participants was involved in an accident on IH-35 in Austin on Friday night.

According to Austin police, the accident happened just before 6 p.m. in the southbound lanes of IH-35 near the Airport Boulevard ramp. The bus was stopped in traffic when a vehicle rear-ended it.

Greyhound spokesperson, Maureen Richmond, said the Valley Transit bus was carrying 20 passengers and was coming from Brownsville to Austin for the Special Olympics.

A total of six people, four of whom were bus passengers, were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

When the accident cleared around 6:30 p.m., the bus driver took the rest of the passengers to the hospital to get checked out as a precaution.
