AUSTIN (KXAN) - Local charities are using the power of social media to help boost the bottom line and help more people this holiday season.

You've heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday -- today is dubbed Giving Tuesday.

Charities in Austin and across the country are hoping the public will reach out to friends via social media networks like Facebook and Twitter and encourage them to donate time or money to their favorite charities.

Even just a few dollars or a few minutes of time per person can make a difference.

Social media users can promote the Giving Tuesday campaign using hashtag "#givingtuesday" on Twitter.
