Marathon winners cross the finish line

Nearly 20,000 expected for the run

AUSTIN(KXAN) - Get ready for the Livestrong Austin Marathon, which will bring 20,000 runners to downtown Austin on Sunday morning.

The first place winner at the Livestrong Austin Marathon was Edward Korir Kiptum, followed by Jynocel Basweti Kiptum completed his race in a time of 2:22:51.88.

Half marathon winners already have crossed the line. According to Austin Marathon, winners in the men's category were Siyabonga Nkonde, David Fuentes and Cheyne Inman. Winners in the women's category were Allison Mendez, Hellen Rotich and Sarah Deller.

The start line of the Austin Marathon is 16th Street and Congress Avenue, with a start time of 7 a.m. The route, with 28 turns through downtown, will end at the south end of the Capitol on Congress Avenue and 10th Street. Already, the race has tweeted what will be waiting at the finish line.

Race officials say 30 bands will be playing along the route, as runners are paced through the 26 miles. Drummers, cheer squads and dance teams will encourae the runners along the route. Commuters are encouraged to avoid downtown through 6 p.m., and Capital Metro will re-routing a number of bus routes around the race. Those changes can be found. here.
