AUSTIN (KXAN) - All the classrooms at Purple Sage Elementary School , won't be ready for students on the first day of school.
Two weeks ago, Round Rock Independent School District officials said mold was found in numerous classrooms.
Specialists were hired to take samples of the substance and to test the air quality.
Mold abatement started last week and officials originally though the process would take 10 days, but new tests received on Friday indicates some rooms will have to be sealed off for further treatment.
The new test results indicate the school’s quality of air is within normal ranges in all areas except for one classroom, Room 31.
Room 31 still showed higher levels of two types of mold (Chaetomium and Penicillium/Aspergillus).
To remedy the problem, the district said experts will seal off Room 31 as well as the three classrooms next to Room 31, as a precaution.
District officials said the campus is safe for students and staff to return in all other areas and teachers will officially begin moving into their classrooms on Saturday. In previous years the district has sealed off portions of a building to address air-quality issues while allowing normal activities to continue within the campus.
